FLORENCE ELLEN WELCH
Florence Ellen Welch, 89, of Marysville died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at
The Gables at Green Pastures.
A loving homemaker, she was a devoted wife and beloved matriarch of her
family. She was a 1933 graduate of North Lewisburg High School where she
excelled in basketball. She formerly worked as a cook for the Marysville
schools. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cooking and took great pride
in taking care of her family. She will be remembered for her terrific
sense of humor and all her wonderful motherly attributes.
She was born Feb. 28, 1914, in North Lewisburg to the late Lawrence and
Ethel Bloomquist Burroughs and was predeceased by a grandson, Michael
Griffis; two brothers, Earl Burroughs and Clark Burroughs; and four
sisters, Blanche Cowgill, Hazel Winslow, Ruth Simpson and May
Scheiderer. She married Lester J. Welch Oct. 14, 1939, in Kentucky and
he died Dec. 28, 1996.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Virginia) Burroughs of Sidney; three
daughters, Jean (Jim) Campbell of Cincinnati, Dora (Paul) Griffis of
Sidney and Debbie Gordon of Marysville; 11 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine
Pennington of North Lewisburg and Pearle Collinson of Marysville; a
brother-in-law, Bob (Margaret) Welch of Raymond; many nieces and
nephews; and the caring staff of The Gables at Green Pastures.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mannasmith-Hale
Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Sharritts will officiate and burial will be
at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg. Friends may call from 2 to 6
p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Gables activity fund in care
of the funeral home.
