HOWARD E. GRIMES
Howard E. Grimes, 84, of Unionville Center died Friday, June 27, 2003,
at Memorial Hospital of Union County. He was retired as a supervisor
with Eljer's Plumbingware and served with the Ohio National Guard during
World War II. A 1939 graduate of Marysville High School, he played
varsity football for five years and his love of all sports continued
through his life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. He
was civically active and was a Scoutmaster for more than 25 years for
Boy Scout Troop 125 in Unionville Center, a member of the Marysville
First United Methodist Church, Urania Lodge 311 F&AM, member and past
Patron of Elizabeth Chapter 56 OES, member of Scottish Rite, Valley of
Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine and Registrar's Group, Union County
Shrine Club and Capital City Good Sam's Club. He was a volunteer for
Memorial Hospital at the Windsor Community Meals site, accumulating more
than 275 hours since 1998.
He was born April 9, 1919, in Union County to the late Ralph J. and
Melvina J. Shaw Grimes and was predeceased by two brothers, Harold W.
and Ralph W. "Red" Grimes and a sister, Mary Shaw.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Cooperider Grimes to
whom he was married March 21, 1943, at the Unionville Center United
Methodist Church by the Rev. Hugh Liggett; children, Laurinda J. (Jim)
Caudill of Unionville Center and Charles R. "Chuck" (Jenny Kaye) Grimes
of Jamestown; a foster daughter, Judy Sweeney of Orange, Calif.; six
grandchildren, Charles Hayes, Shelly (Mike) Hamon, Travis (Melissa)
Grimes, Tisa (Rick) Lenix, Derek Henry and Joann Sweeney; seven
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James W. (Louise) Grimes of
Columbus and Loren "Shine" (Virginia) Grimes of Marysville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United
Methodist Church of Marysville. The Revs. Scot Oche and Richard Teller
will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ingram Funeral Home. Masonic
and Eastern Star services will begin at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund in care
of the funeral home.
