| According to the "History of Union County, 1883" by W.H. Beers, "He came to Ohio with his parents when he was only two years of age, first to Ross County and then to Union County, where he remained until his death, which occurred in 1872." This raises a question, since it states elsewhere in the bio sketch that he was born in Ross County, OH. Was his family just visiting when he was born, or were they checking out the area for later? After all, they came to Ohio when he was "two years of age", so it was not very long after his birth in Ross County, that the family returned to Ross County as settlers. In addition, the census for 1850 1860 and 1870 list his birth state as Pennsylvania. | ||

| 1870 census shows she could not write. Husband's biographical sketch of 1883 shows her birth date as 7 Aug 1799. Likely headstone shows Mariah Hamilton, 1797-1880, but this makes little sense, since her husband's bio sketch says she was still living as of 1883. 1880 census lists her living with her son John. This is assuming the sketch was written in 1883. If it was written in 1880, then the dates make more sense. According to the "Descendants of John Blaw", Maria (no 'H') died in 1886. Webnote | ||
